Since our last visit to Bangkok, the biggest change has been the appearance of a huge shopping/eating/leisure complex, just a 10 minute walk from our flat. IconSiam is now the top spot for viewing the spectacular fireworks we’ve seen so many times in the city and, learning from our experience of trying to get a river-side view of the Royal Barges procession, we booked a table for the event in a Thai restaurant on the 5th floor of the building.
The building is said to have cost US$1.5 billion, including a couple of smart apartment blocks.
With its vast range of global brands, you can buy anything here, from high street to high end. Alain Ducasse may well have set up a new restaurant but this is our eating place of choice:
